Rowland was born in 1884 to Richard P. Banks, a Cashier, of Holly House, Cadishead. At 15 he registered at the Tech in 1899-00 as a day student on the Prep Year Science Courses. The following year he registered for the 1st Year in Mechanical Engineering. He died during the action at High Wood on 20th July 1926.
