Leonard was born on 8th June 1886 at Cheetham Hill, the eldest son of Seth Wrigley of Southport. He attended Manchester Grammar School (1900-1903) and when war broke out he was working for L.G. & O.C. Wrigley, an insurance broker and was married to Fanny (nee Howard) of Southern Rhodesia. He enjoyed playing tennis at Pickwick Lawn Tennis Club. From November 1915 to January 1916 he was a member of the University Officer Training Corps and was gazetted in Aug 1916 to the Manchester Regiment. He was killed on Passcendaele Ridge in October 1917.
