Harry was the son of Alfred and Sophia Fletcher of Wigan. He was born in 1894 at Sutton-on-Sea, Lincolnshire and attended Wigan Grammar School before entering Manchester University in 1913 as a student of arts.
Harry joined the University Officer Training Corps in October 1915 and enlisted on 20th January 1916 with the South Lancashire Regiment. He died on 6th July 1917.
A marble tablet with the names of the men from Harry’s church who fell in the war was funded by his parents.
