Eugene Patrick Leahy was born in 1889, the son of Mr David Leahy, Justice to the Peace of Glengormley, Belfast. He was educated at St. Malachy`s College Belfast and came to Manchester University to study medicine between 1907 and 1913, gaining an M.B and Ch.B. He went on to work at Chester Infirmary before setting up in General Practise in Belfast.
He enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in February 1915 and by 1916 was a Captain serving in France with the 61st Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C. He was seriously wounded in the September fighting on the Somme and died of his wounds on the 18th September 1916.
