Carl was born in 1891 at Manchester to German born Carl Gottlieb Auguste and Mary Ann Miede. He was educated at Ducie Avenue Secondary School, and Manchester Municipal Secondary School. The Registry Office, which his parents’ managed, was at 37 Upper Brook Street, Manchester. In 1909 he entered Manchester University as a Manchester Corporation Scholar. In 1912 he was awarded a BSc. Technology Division II in Sanitary Engineering. He was employed as Surveyor at the Town Planning Department, Manchester Corporation.
Carl was a member of the Manchester University Officer Training Corp from 1909 to 1914, and enlisted on 18th August 1914 into 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers as a signaller. He died during the Battle of the Somme on 20th July 1916. He served as Carl Henry Francis Miede.
