Bernard, son of Edward and Mary Ellen Scully, was born in 1892 and attended Manchester Secondary School up to his entry to Manchester University in 1912.
Bernard was a member of the University Officer Training Corps from October 1912 to his enlistment on 20th September 1914 with the 9th Battalion Munster Fusiliers. In August 1916 he was commended by the divisional general for his bravery. He died on 11th September 1916 at 21st Casualty Clearing Station of wounds received two days earlier.
