Edmund was born on 1st December 1886 and was the only son of Sir Edmund and Lady H.D.L. Buckley of North Wales. He was educated at Cheltenham College and entered Manchester University in 1904. He left the University in 1907 and continued to study engineering with Humber Works Limited at Beeston, Nottinghamshire and Coventry, where he went on to be in charge of the Motor Cycle Repair Department. He played for Coventry Rugby Club and was for several years the Captain of the second XV.
Edmund joined the Public Schools Battalion as a private at the outbreak of war and on 21st September 1914 gained a commission in The Royal Welsh Fusiliers. His unit landed at Gallipoli on the 9th August 1915. Early on the morning of the 10th they took part in an advance on Scimitar Hill under heavy shrapnel, rifle and machine gun fire. At 7:30 p.m. fighting ceased, they withdrew to their own front line trenches, but were engaged in more heavy fighting the next day. During this period Edmund was mortally wounded.
