Thomas was born in 1894 to William Robinson of Moss Side. He was educated at Cavendish Boarding School and Ducie Avenue before entering the University of Manchester in 1913 as a student of Arts. In June 1914 he satisfied the examiners in Greek as part of his intermediate B.A.
Thomas enlisted on 26th September 1914 in the Royal Naval Division (Plymouth Battalion). He died during the Gallipoli campaign.
A painting of a kneeling knight at prayer in St. Anslem hall of residence chapel has a small plaque dedicating the picture to the memory of Thomas Robinson who was preparing for holy orders at the hall and University at the time he joined up.
