John was born in 1891, and baptised 28th Nov 1891, to John Henry, a blacksmith, and Bertha Maria Twigg, of Amber House, Ashover, Chesterfield. With a term time address of 1 Lorne Street, Upper Brook Street, Manchester, records show he was a 2nd year electrical engineering student in 1909, then 17, and in 1910 a student in PME. He died in February 1919 and left effects worth £282 9s 7d to his father.
