Arthur was born on 11th September 1891 at Chorlton-cum-Hardy to William and Agnes Moorhouse. He was educated at Birkdale Grammar School and Buxton College. In 1913 he entered Manchester University. From August 1914 to September 1914 he was a member of the University Officer Training Corps. He is noted in the 1922 Roll of Service as being employed by the Board of Trade. He served on the Western Front with 12th Battalion Manchester Regiment, was wounded once and mentioned in despatches. He died at Endsleigh Palace Hospital, St. Pancras, London, of influenza in late November 1918. He left effects worth £5627 16s 7d to his mother.
