Henry was born on 23rd April 1879 at Todmorden to Alfred and Mary Sutcliffe. He attended Cross Stone School snd Coal Clough School, Burnley. In 1897 he came to Manchester University, graduating in 1900 and became a science teacher at Coal Clough School. In March 1916 he enlisted. He died of influenza on 8th November 1918 at No. 11 Casualty Clearing Station in France. He left effects worth £200 11s 4d to William Sutcliffe, an architect.
