John was the son of John and Charlotte Pick. He was born in 1897 at Leicester and attended Quorn Grammar School before entering Manchester University in 1916 to study chemistry. In July 1917 he joined the University Officer Training Corps. In February 1918 he enlisted. Wounded on 4th November 1918 he died at 59th Casualty Clearing Station three days later. He left effects worth £270 7s 8d to his mother.
