Thomas was the eldest son of Samuel and Hannah Bowler of Whitchurch. He was born in Didsbury in 1899 and attended Rhos and Chatham House, Ramsgate. In 1916 he arrived at Manchester University to study chemistry. From October 1916 to January 1918 he was a member of the University Officer Training Corps. In June 1918 he was gazetted. On 1st October 1918 he was wounded and died at Givenchy a couple of daus later. His headstone reads “The best of sons”. He left effects worth £408 1s 3d to his father.
