Henry was the eldest son of James Henry, a commercial clerk, and Selina Jane Tuck of West Didsbury, Manchester. He was born in 1898 at Swinton and attended Mellor Council School, Manchester High School for Boys and Manchester Central School. In 1916 he joined Manchester University with a Corporation Scholarship. From October 1916 to March 1917 he was a member of the University Officer Training Corps and in October 1917 he was gazetted to the Middlesex Regiment. On 25th October 1918 he was wounded and died the next day at 64 Casualty Clearing Station near Courtrai. He left effects worth £129 3s 3d to his father.
