Kenneth was born on 12th September 1898 in Darjeeling India to James Walker Duthie, a Wesleyan Miniter, and his wife Margaret. He was educated at Hall Gate School; Hebden Bridge School; and Kingswood School, Bath and for matriculation was exempt Matric Inter BSc (London). Residing at 37 The Square, Fairfield, Manchester, he entered Manchester University and for 1914-15 session was studying 2nd Year Applied Chemistry. At the time of his death his father was the Wesleyan Cicuit superintendent minister of Fairfield and had just completed his term of service at Droylsden.
