George Wild was born on 14th December 1898 at Mottram-in-Longdendale to Joseph William Wild, a clerk, and his wife Eliza. Educated at Mottram Grammar School and Hyde County School George entered Manchester University in 1916 to study electrical engineering.
From February 1917 to May 1917 George was a member of the Manchester University Officer Training Corp. He enlisted on 2nd July 1917 to 2nd Bn. South Wales Borderers. He died of wounds in February 1918. His headstone carries a quote from Tennyson: “And may there be no sadness of farewell”.
