Percy was the son of Richard Dene and Margaret Ellen Brookes of Handforth and later Rhode Island, U.S.A. He was born in 1886, attended Stockport Techincal School and was an auctioneer and valuer who was gazetted to the Cheshire Regiment in early 1917 having been a member of the University Officer Training Corps from May 1916 to January 1917. He was killed on 22nd November 1917, possibly near Gheluvelt (the University Roll of Service records his date of death as 24th December 1917). He left effects worth £69 11s 6d to his widow Ellen Martha.
