William, born in 1889 at Bridport, Dorset, was the son of Charles Wildblood, a Wesleyan Minister. He attended Halifax Higher Grade School and Kingswood School, Bath. He came to Manchester University in 1908, gained a B.A. in 1911 and an M.A. in 1912. He was a resident of Hulme Hall. After completing his studies he taught at Huddersfield College and later Colston School, Bristol. He played cricket for Huddersfield and the University.
Soon after the outbreak of war William joined the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps. In May 1915 he was commissioned to the Royal Army Service Corp (Motor Transport) and promoted to Lieutant six months later. He was killed by artillery fire at Ouderdom near Reninghelst, in Belgium on 16th June 1917. He left effects worth £192 19s 6d to his father. During his time in the army he wrote to Professor Tout.
