2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
Died at sea 4th May 1917, age 26.

John was born in 1890 at Farnsworth to George and M.A. Brown. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and came to Manchester University in 1911 to study applied chemistry. He was an oil merchant.
As a member of the Officer Training Corps since October 1911 John enlisted on 2nd September 1914 into the 20th Hussars. In February 1917 he was gazetted into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was drowned, along with over 400 others, on 4th May 1917 when H.M.T. Transylvania was torpedoed in the Mediterranean.
