Private 20335, “C” Company 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers.
Killed in action 3rd May 1917, age 22.
Remembered on the Arras Memorial, France.
Student of medicine.
Montague was born in 1895 to Henry and Eva Lichtenstein and he attended Manchester Grammar School (1906-1911). His Commonwealth War Graves Commission record notes that he was a medical student at Manchester University, but the 1922 Roll of Service does not list him and his name on the memorial in the quad appears to be a late addition not listed with the rest of those from his regiment who were lost. He was reported missing in early May 1917 when his unit was involved in an action to capture a chemical works near Arras.
