David, son of James & Eliza Worswick of Wigan, was born on 13th September 1896 and was educated at Ashton-in-Makersfield Grammar School where he captained the football and cricket teams. He came to Manchester University in October 1914 to study commerce.
David immediately joined the University Officer Training Corps, but left in December 1915. On 6th January 1916 he enlisted with the Grenadier Guards. He was killed in September 1916 when his unit attempted to break through the German front on the Somme.
