Frederick Bramwell was born at Little Lever in 1895 to William Bramwell of Farnsworth, Bolton. He was educated at Central Higher Grade School, Bolton and entered Manchester University in 1903 gaining a science degree in 1906. He played football for the University, and afterwards for Walkden Amateurs, enjoyed cricket and was an excellent swimmer. He was a talented musician and had a keen interest in politics. After completing his studies he became an assistant chemistry master at Burgess Street School, Harpurhey.
Frederick enlisted in June 1916 as a Pioneer in the Special Bridgade of the Royal Engineers and died of wounds just three months later. He left a widow, Gwendoline.
