2nd Lieutenant, 1st/9th Battalion King’s (Liverpool) Regiment.
Killed in action 12th August 1916, age 29.
Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
Former student of mathematics.
Harry was born in 1896 at Winewall near Colne to James and Nancy Watson. Educated at Winewall Grammar School and Burnley Grammar School he entered Manchester University in 1904 and graduated with a mathematics degree in 1907. He was a keen cricketer and at the outbreak of war was an assistant mathematics master at Ormskirk Grammar School.
Harry enlisted as a private in September 1914 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1916. He died near Guillemont in August 1916 whilst leading his men in a bombing attack.
