Serjeant 6960, “A” Company, 16th Battalion Manchester Regiment.
Killed in action 9th July 1916, age 23.
Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
Former student of engineering.
Thomas was born in 1893 to John, a clerk of works, and Annie Broadbent of Altrincham. He was employed by Crossley Bros, Engineers, Openshaw, Manchester. The Tech registers indicate that he was enrolled aged 16 in 1909-10 for 1st Year Engineering Apprentice Course, and at 17 in 1910-11 was enrolled on the 2nd Year. It is likely that he completed his apprenticeship, but Tech registers for the next few years are absent. He served on the western front and died during the Battle of the Somme on 9th July 1916.
